I believe in the necessity to make new sentences on Turkish Music
We are hosting Yaprak Sayar, a conspicuous musician, and her album 'Caz Musiki' in the Portrait section. The young musician shared the process of making her album and her new projects.
Who did you work with?
All songs in the album were arranged by Baki Duyarlar. I also worked with Kağan Yıldız, contrabassist, Ekin Cengizkan, drummer, Erkan Oğur, guitarist, Derya Türkan, kamancheh player, Mehmet Akatay, percussionist, Turgut Özüfler, qanunist, and Aslıhan Parlak, cellist.
What were the reactions to your album?
They are satisfying and positive. Nobody asks why we have done something like this. Everyone thinks our music is quality, dynamic, relaxing, also appealing to young people. This is so great for me.
Welcome to The Look Magazine. I want to start with your latest album. It is an unusual project. Can you talk about it?
The album consists of a total of ten songs, some of which are in the form of Turkish folk music. They all blend jazz elements and we aim to make a music everyone can understand rendering Turkish musical style and tone. Jazz is the mutual language now, and we obtained a rich harmony combining jazz melodies with Turkish music.
What made you make a new project?
One of the reasons was the positive vibes dear Baki Duyarlar and other jazz musicians in our team radiated. We gave a concert in Washington Embassy in 2013 of which effects I still feel. What I experienced on stage was not only a performance but a music I would never forget. Later, I wanted to make an album out of this project. Also, I am a performer excited about new things and I always want to be so. I am educated on Classical Turkish Music, but I believe we should make new sentences. Reactions from listeners who have never listened to Classical Turkish music convince me that what I am doing is right.
