Releasing the album "Su Yolunu Bulur", Bahadır Tatlıöz gave an interview to us about his music, album, and holiday preferences.
You started to engage in music professionally as a little child. Can you share this story with our readers?
Well, the effect of being a member of a family of musicians and irresistible desire... I got in the conservatory at the age of six. When I was 13, I started to play the piano and keyboards professionally on stage. This was an inevitable thing. I released my first song at the age of 14.
You have recently released a new album named Su Yolunu Bulur (Let Nature Take Its Course). What is the story behind it? Why is it named that way?
The album is composed mostly of my songs and arrangements. My actual feelings dominate it and I gently and carefully prepared if from the recording stage till it was on the shelves. My motto was sincerity, quality, and emotion. The reason my opening song is Su Yolunu Bulur is related to its subtext. It is a spiritual and submissive song. It narrates a life without greed and revenge; it is about a life full of love and life. This is my personality and my song.
You made the music video for the song Su Yolunu Bulur and it is amazing. Thank you! Was it your idea to make it in Batman (a province in Southern Anatolia). What kind of an experience was this?
Yes, it was my idea, but also a big team also approved of it. The aim was to serve one value of ours in the video of such a spiritual song. I mean to pass Hasankeyf (a historical site 37 km from Batman Province) to future generations and breathe the same air with people in the south-east region; it was a way of saying "We are one and together." It was an incredible experience. The value of the song and the video will be understood better in the future.
I want to talk to you about your perspective towards music. What kind of music do you listen to? What is music to Bahadır Tatlıöz?
I love Turkish folk music. My music journey was a mixture of folk music, Turkish classical music, and modern music. I listen to jazz and classical music. I have made jazz music for years. I have represented my country as a pianist many times abroad. My album named "Çalıjazz" was a reflection of my soul. I paid my tribute to humanity through the video clips of songs like Sağduyu, Savaş ve Hüzün, Unutulmuş Çocuklar, Çanakkale Türküsü.
Bahadır Tatlıöz is famous for taking part in social responsibility projects as well as his music. Can you give some information about these projects? What pushes you to be a part of them?
I have been taking part in social projects with my 3 music videos of Sağduyu and music video of Çanakkale Türküsü. You have to add value to life to succeed in life. You have to develop empathy, go to great pains, and love to deserve. Having a disabled sibling was the driving force behind being in these projects. I would not like to call him disabled since he is more talented than me. I can say he is just different.
What are your future plans? What is on your agenda?
Many gigs, social projects, new song videos, and an art school where disabled individuals will also get education. This is my dream.
I know that you travel a lot. How do you spend your holidays?
I do not make plans. I just pack and hit the road. The plan shapes while I am on the road in a way coincidentally. My only plan is being in the nature. My holidays are usually simple and plain. I touch the earth with my feet and feel the sea, rivers, and lakes in my skin. I love hearing birds singing.
